Together for the Planet: Canopée and the Brazil Climate, Forests, and Agriculture Coalition Join Forces for Sustainability

Canopée Environmental Management is honored to announce its official membership in the Brazil Climate, Forests, and Agriculture Coalition. Joining this movement is a significant milestone in our commitment to environmental preservation and sustainable development.

Through this participation, Canopée joins over 300 representatives from the private sector, financial sector, academia, and civil society who share a common goal: guiding Brazil towards a new, competitive, responsible, and inclusive low-carbon economy. This involves promoting synergy between agendas for protection, conservation, sustainable use of natural and planted forests, agriculture, and adaptation to climate change.

The Brazil Climate, Forests, and Agriculture Coalition took its first steps in December 2014 and was officially founded on June 24, 2015, with the launch of the movement’s foundational document just before COP 21, the United Nations Climate Change Conference, where the Paris Agreement was signed.

Since then, the Coalition has emerged as a significant player in formulating proposals and solutions to help Brazil meet its commitments under the global climate agreement. Efforts are focused on contributing to national debates, influencing the formulation of public policies, economic instruments, and experiences related to land use in our country. Additionally, proposals and perspectives are presented at COP meetings and other international forums, sharing the knowledge of members with the global audience.

The foundational document of the Brazil Climate, Forests, and Agriculture Coalition presents 17 concrete proposals for the Brazilian climate change agenda. Among the proposals are combating deforestation and illegal logging, promoting low-carbon agriculture, restoring degraded areas, land tenure planning, and social protection for communities. Furthermore, the aim is to encourage the competitive and sustainable production of food, forest products, and bioenergy.

Based on this document, the Coalition Brazil has produced numerous other proposals and delivered positions, studies, and reports to the country’s key decision-makers. There have been over 90 positions and 25 studies, with a notable publication being “Vision 2030-2050: The Future of Forests and Agriculture in Brazil.” This publication reflects the main long-term objectives that coalition members dream of and work towards seeing realized in the near future.

The entry of Canopée into the Brazil Climate, Forests, and Agriculture Coalition is a strategic and powerful alliance. We are strengthening our commitment to sustainability, aligning our efforts with other organizations, and positively influencing policies and practices that shape our future. We believe that through collective efforts, we can build a more sustainable, resilient, and prosperous Brazil for present and future generations.
