Feb 29 Strengthening Ties: Canopée Strengthens Collaboration with Communities and Goes to the Field at the Itxawá and Yuxibu II Projects

Over the past month, our team, comprised of Operations Director Gustavo Baêsso and GHG and REDD+ Project Analyst Kaio Costa, has been in the field, carrying out a series of activities with the goal of strengthening ties with the community surrounding the Itxawá and Yuxibu II Projects, located in Sena Madureira, in the state of Acre.

During this visit, we held consultations with stakeholders, including local community members, municipal government representatives and other relevant actors. In addition, we visited the Project Farms, where we were able to closely verify the compliance of the REDD+ Projects, both in terms of the methodology adopted and the commitments made to the partners and neighbors who will be involved in the project activities over the coming decades.

We also met with the City Hall of Sena Madureira to discuss possible partnerships and joint actions that could benefit the community and promote sustainable development in the region. In addition, we visited local schools to promote environmental awareness among students and educators and organize some initiatives.

Finally, we had the opportunity to talk to the residents of the surrounding farms, listening to their concerns, suggestions and opinions about the Itxawá and Yuxibu II Projects. This direct interaction with the community is essential to ensure that our activities are aligned with local needs and expectations, thus fostering a relationship of trust and transparency.
