05 Jun Together for the planet: Canopée and the Brazil Climate, Forests and Agriculture Coalition join forces for sustainability

Canopée Gestão Ambiental is honored to announce its official entry into the Brazil Climate, Forests and Agriculture Coalition. Joining the movement is a significant milestone in our commitment to environmental preservation and sustainable development.

Through this participation, Canopée joins more than 300 representatives from the private sector, financial sector, academia and civil society, who share a common goal: to guide Brazil towards a new low-carbon, competitive, responsible and inclusive economy, promoting synergy between the agendas of protection, conservation, sustainable use of natural and planted forests, agriculture and adaptation to climate change.

The Brazil Climate, Forests and Agriculture Coalition took its first steps in December 2014 and was officially founded on June 24, 2015, with the launch of the movement's base document, on the eve of COP 21, the United Nations Conference on Climate Change, where the Paris Agreement was signed.

Since then, the Coalition has stood out as a major player in formulating proposals and solutions that help Brazil fulfill its commitments under the global climate agreement. Efforts are focused on contributing to national debates, influencing the formulation of public policies, economic instruments and experiences related to land use in our country. In addition, proposals and visions are taken to COP meetings and other international forums, sharing the knowledge of members with the global public.

The base document of the Brazil Climate, Forests and Agriculture Coalition presents 17 concrete proposals for the Brazilian climate change agenda. The proposals include combating deforestation and illegal logging, encouraging low-carbon agriculture, restoring degraded areas, land use planning and social protection for communities. In addition, the aim is to encourage the competitive and sustainable production of food, forestry products and bioenergy.

Based on this document, the Brazil Coalition has produced several other proposals and delivered positions, studies and reports to the country's main decision-makers. There were more than 90 positions and 25 studies, with emphasis on the publication “Vision 2030-2050: The Future of Forests and Agriculture in Brazil”. This publication is a reflection of the main long-term objectives that the coalition members dream of and work to see achieved in the near future.

Canopée's entry into the Brazil Climate, Forests and Agriculture Coalition is a strategic and powerful union. We are strengthening our commitment to sustainability, joining forces with other organizations and positively influencing the policies and practices that shape our future. We believe that it is by joining forces that we can build a more sustainable, resilient and prosperous Brazil for present and future generations.
