Gustavo Baêsso

Director of Forestry Operations

Gustavo Baêsso is a forestry engineer with a master's degree in Forestry Science and a specialization in genetic improvement from the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV). He has extensive experience in annual GHG inventories (Brazilian GHG Protocol), carbon compensation calculations, and forest carbon projects under the VCS and Cercarbono standards.

As a validation and verification auditor and local expert in forest carbon projects, he adheres to the highest international standards, such as Verra VCS/CCB. He has strategically collaborated with various accredited Validation and Verification Bodies (VVBs), ensuring project compliance with global sustainability requirements. With over 20 forest carbon credit projects in his portfolio, including ARR and REDD (APD and AUD) projects, he has deep expertise in the field.

As co-founder, CEO, and R&D Leader at Pólen Engenharia Florestal, Gustavo led the development of innovative technologies for forest nurseries, including an automated greenhouse that revolutionized the productivity and rooting of mini-cuttings in the forestry sector. His career also includes coordinating the Drought Tolerance Project, collaborating with major forestry companies in Brazil to develop drought-tolerant eucalyptus clones, as well as providing strategic leadership in the Projects Sector of the Forestry Investigation Society/UFV, where he conceived and led the creation of several Thematic Groups, such as Harvesting, Silviculture and Society, and Restoration, among others.
