Strengthening Networks: Canopée's Commitment to Local Communities

Strategic partnerships with local organizations and communities reinforce Canopée's integrated socio-environmental impact in the Amazon region.

Strengthening Networks: Canopée's Commitment to Local Communities

Since its founding, Canopée has prioritized building strategic alliances with local grassroots organizations as a central pillar of its operational philosophy. These partnerships are fundamental for identifying the authentic priorities of communities neighboring our conservation areas and designing social initiatives that foster enduring positive impact.

By joining forces with regional institutions and cultivating collaborative networks, Canopée accelerates initiatives uniting forest preservation and social development, ensuring community programs are inclusive, customized, and responsive to regional realities. Below, we highlight key initiatives and partnerships reflecting Canopée's commitment to integrated development in the Amazon basin.

Joint Action: Schools, Municipalities, and Community

In 2024, Canopée deepened field operations in Acre through an extended stakeholder mission across communities surrounding the Itxawá and Yuxibu 2 projects in Sena Madureira. The technical delegation, led by Operations Director Gustavo Baêsso and GHG and REDD+ Project Analyst Kaio Costa, executed multiple community engagement programs and field inspections.

Consultations with community leaders, riverside families, and municipal authorities anchored the trip, focusing on shared priorities and collaborative opportunities. On-site technical audits confirmed adherence to REDD+ methodologies and verified project commitments, reinforcing transparency and governance.

During meetings with the Municipality of Sena Madureira, joint initiatives for regional sustainable development were established. The team also visited local schools, facilitating environmental education workshops and identifying practical educational needs. In response, Canopée collaborated with a scientific illustrator to create two exclusive environmental education art series, distributed on notebooks and study materials for local students.

Direct dialogue with local residents provided an essential channel to listen to concerns and aspirations, strengthening mutual trust and respect. The mission reaffirmed Canopée's dedication to regional sustainability and equitable social prosperity in the Amazon.

COOPERAR and Canopée

In 2023, Canopée established a strategic partnership with the Agroextractive Cooperative of Mapiá and Médio Purus (COOPERAR), reinforcing its commitment to standing forest conservation and sustainable bioeconomy livelihoods. This technical, administrative, and financial cooperation unites efforts to balance environmental protection with community prosperity.

COOPERAR brings over 18 years of experience across the Amazon basin, promoting sustainable community supply chains including native vegetable oils, wild Brazil nuts, and natural rubber tapping, directly supporting family farmers and traditional rubber tappers.

This alliance emerged from Canopée's immersion in Acre, encompassing field visits to traditional communities and sustained dialogues with regional cooperatives. Together, our institutions combine expertise to safeguard fragile ecosystems while advancing socio-economic well-being.

Agro com Elas and Canopée

Canopée fosters transformative alliances in Acre to accelerate regenerative agriculture and local female leadership, such as our partnership with Agro com Elas, an agricultural consultancy based in Rio Branco, Acre.

With the mission of supporting and expanding women's leadership in agribusiness and rural production, Agro com Elas provides innovative technical assistance focused on economic viability, social inclusion, and ecological sustainability.

Joint workshops between Canopée and Agro com Elas enabled technical knowledge exchanges and collaborative strategies focused on rural capacity building, female empowerment in the agricultural sector, and the adoption of sustainable agroforestry practices.
