Elo announced its entrance into the carbon credit market with the launch of Elo Eco, a platform that structures the commercialization of tokenized assets originating from forest conservation (REDD+) projects in the Amazon. The initiative combines technological innovation, governance, and traceability to strengthen trust in the Brazilian carbon market.

"There is still much distrust in the carbon market — companies, even large ones, do not yet fully trust projects and the origin of the credits they are acquiring. The scenario will change with the regulation of the Brazilian market in the coming years. And Elo wants to be prepared to support this process, offering technology and credibility," stated Andréia Limão.

In this initial phase of operation, Elo selected a restricted group of projects to compose the platform's portfolio — among them, the Itxawá REDD+ Project, developed by Canopée. The choice was based on rigorous technical criteria, including recognized certifications, methodological robustness, socio-environmental consistency, and institutional credibility.

In an interview with Valor Econômico, Andréia El Haber Limão, sustainability superintendent at Elo, highlighted that the company prioritized projects with a high level of integrity from conception, supported by international standards, ratings, and thorough due diligence processes.

"We started from premises of projects that had good quality right from inception. We looked at leading certification bodies, standards, and ratings. We have a strict filter for project acceptance," she stated.

Elo Eco uses blockchain technology and tokenization protocols to digitize and track the credit's journey — from certification to commercialization — ensuring transparency, security, and access to detailed information about the origin and impact of the assets.

"The idea is to apply to the carbon credit the same rigor we already use in the financial sector: reliability, transparency, automated protocols, and end-to-end traceability. And blockchain technology is our great ally in this," added Caroline Selich. "The platform offers the buyer the complete history of the credit, from CAR and shapefile to social and environmental impacts. With this, they know exactly what they are acquiring."

The selection of the Itxawá Project reinforces Canopée's positioning in developing high-integrity REDD+ projects, aligned with international best practices and the strengthening of a more reliable, transparent, and technically sound carbon market in Brazil. In addition to contributing to the protection of Amazon forests and emissions mitigation, the project is oriented toward generating lasting socio-environmental benefits, involving local governance, continuous monitoring, and traceability.
